The Forge Inn is now closed, deteriorating and reflects badly on our historic and popular villager. As the only pub in the village, it is important to have a central hub that the people of Ulgham can be proud of. Our plan is to raise funds through a share issue, grants and other fund raising activity. Our aim is to raise between £300,000 and £450,000
We aspire to be a flourishing, friendly and welcoming village pub. The Forge Inn will operate as a community hub, an all-day café, a free house that serves local beers and sensibly priced, good food, prepared using locally sourced ingredients where possible.
A survey in the village in August 2023 provided us with the confidence that there is an overwhelming support to open a community pub and other services in the village. The results of the survey requested that we operate a flexible and sustainable multi-purpose community facility working alongside other local community groups such as the Women’s Institute, Parish Council and Ulgham Cricket Club.
To purchase the freehold via community shares and grant funding,
Refurbish and reconfigure the premises to facilitate flexible services. Provide and protect a safe and welcoming space for our local community and visitors, enabling participation in social, cultural and leisure activities.
Support those who wish to volunteer whilst also providing inclusive employment and training.
Engagement with local residents, providing volunteer opportunities to support social isolation.
Provide employment and apprenticeships.
Offer inclusive work experience opportunities. Supporting young people, long term unemployed and those with mental health or learning disabilities seeking work placements.
Adopt a low carbon (renewable energy) policy supporting local environmental initiatives.
To include solar panels, battery storage and potentially heat pumps.
Provide public electric vehicle charging points.
